Celebrating South African Stories
The inaugural Otto Foundation Children’s Book Award was announced in May 2024.
Award Objectives
To promote and support local publishers
To promote new authors and illustrators
To celebrate South African stories
To promote diversity in children’s literature
To recognize and celebrate quality storytelling
Involving children in the award process
Shortlisted titles were be included in the Otto Foundation’s Reading Relay – hosted among six schools in the District Six area in Cape Town. Book reviews submitted by our learners during the relay process were considered in the final selection of the award winners. More than 5900 book reviews by learners were received in our 2024 Reading Relay!
